All aboard the BICIBUS – along with your bike!

Free shuttle transfer for cyclists from 22 June to 14 September 2025

This summer has a lot in store for cyclists in the Vipava Valley: Plan a cross-border Sunday trip to discover secrets of the border region, explore parts of the Alpina–Mediterranean Cycling Route connecting Friuli and western Slovenia, or escape the heat of the Vipava Valley and enjoy a relaxed ride across the cool, forested Trnovo Plateau. The BICIBUS runs free of charge for you and your bike – all summer long!

From the Vipava Valley to Predmeja and back

During your stay in the Vipava Valley, you’ll find countless opportunities for cycling, whether you’re pedalling across the valley or its friendly, vineyard-covered hills. On warm, sunny days, you can escape the heat by heading up to forested trails shaded by sprawling woodland. And this year, a bike shuttle bus makes it even easier to enjoy a relaxing cycling tour across the cool Trnovo Plateau. Discover how, even at the height of summer, the plateau offers perfect conditions for a relaxed and scenic ride.

Every Thursday and Sunday between 22 June and 14 September 2025, the BICIBUS offers free shuttle rides twice a day between the Vipava Valley and Predmeja.

The BICIBUS departs from the main bus station in Ajdovščina, arrives in Vipava and stops at the Škofijska gimnazija, then continues to Črniče, with stops at the bus stop and Camp David, before bringing passengers and their bikes to the final stop in Predmeja. On the return journey, the shuttle bus also stops in Lokavec, at the Porka Eva pizzeria, where it picks up cyclists who rode down into the valley.

No reservations are required; transport is available until all seats are taken.

From Ajdovščina to Cividale and back – or the other way around

Take advantage of a cross-border cycling opportunity and explore places that, despite being nearby, you may not have yet visited. Visit the picturesque Friulian town of Cividale and ride across the famous Ponte del Diavolo. In Ajdovščina, a town built on the foundations of the former Roman fort Castra, uncover the town’s remarkably well-preserved remains and captivating tales from late antiquity. Along the way, don’t forget to visit Nova Gorica, which together with the Italian Gorizia forms a unique European twin city that will be jointly hosting the European Capital of Culture in 2025. Hop on the BICIBUS—your bike in tow—and kick off an unforgettable adventure.

Every Sunday from 22 June to 14 September 2025, the BICIBUS offers free rides twice per day on the route between Ajdovščina and Cividale, in both directions.

You can also use the BICIBUS cross-border bike shuttle bus to explore a leg of the Alpina-Mediterranean Cycle Route connecting the Friuli region with western Slovenia. Find the route map here.

Another option is to take the train to Nova Gorica and board the BICIBUS from there. By combining these two eco-friendly modes of transport, you’ll also help keep our environment clean and unspoilt.
