Springtime colours, lively flavours and motley adventures

Welcome to the land of the picturesque! If one were to record the sentiments people express when first encountering the Vipava Valley, the word picturesque would certainly have made top of the list. Especially now, in the blossoming Vipava Valley spring, it fits splendidly not only the beautiful landscape but also its culinary offer and opportunities for unique experiences. Come, put on your hiking shoes or hop on your bike, and enjoy springtime exploration!

Between the blooming fruit trees

The Vipava Valley is famous for its exquisite fruit, though you won't easily find any big orchards here. The fruit trees are planted by the homesteads, at the outskirts of the vineyards and meadows, by the rustic lanes and everywhere there's place to fit them. In smaller gardens, too, the locals often tend to their cherry, apricot, fig or kaki trees rather than ornamental plants. When all the trees are in bloom, the sight of the Valley is truly magnificent. Make best advantage of nature's season by taking a springtime trip across the Vipava Valley. Visit fascinating places or one of the many castles, savour the freshness of the crystal-clear waters and treat yourself to a mouth-watering lunch in one of the restaurants serving delicious local cuisine. Want to swap your car for a bicycle or travel on foot? Tourist information centres will gladly advise you on the choice of way.

Green and white, as the asparagus

One of the most enticing reasons to visit the Vipava Valley is its splendid cuisine, a luxury of genuine and hearty flavours. Local dishes excite with their simplicity, traditional preparation methods and pristine ingredients. Treats created by master chefs in our famous inns and restaurants are especially appealing. In the Vipava Valley, you can find some of Slovenia's most renowned culinary virtuosos: in the restaurant Pri Lojzetu at Zemono Manor House, in the Majerija in Slap near Vipava, in the restaurants Pikol and Dam in Nova Gorica. This time of the year, the most exciting of the local delicacies is the asparagus. In the Lower Vipava Valley in fact, conditions are ideal for the cultivation of this highly sought-after spring garden crop, which has enjoyed a long tradition here. Don't miss the seasonal culinary offer, placing asparagus front and centre. Naturally, the superb dishes are accompanied by premium Vipava Valley wines. The handiest opportunities for discovering and tasting local culinary specialties and wines are up during the Month of Local Cuisine, part of the Flavours of the Vipava Valley Festival of wine and cuisine running between 20 April and 20 May.

All the colours of outdoor activity

The proverbially scenic sights of the Vipava Valley are also shaped by the many sports enthusiasts who've found ideal conditions for a variety of activities in the Valley, along the slopes of its hills and in the air. The Vipava Valley is active all year round. Colourful paragliders and hang-gliders soaring about are practically a trademark aspect of the Valley vista. As long as the weather is right, flocks of free fliers rise from the takeoff points Lijak and Kovk. No less popular are the many beautiful hiking trails, which in this season also attract serious cross-country runners. Steep single-track routes challenge mountain bikers while climbers test their mettle on the sunny rocky slopes. The pristine nature of the Vipava Valley provides limitless opportunities for active leisure. At the end of April, adrenaline on four wheels also arrives into the Valley. The traditional Vipava Valley Rally, the biggest local sports event, attracts thousands of spectators alongside its 90 km of racing track.
