EPICenter – EPIC Interpretation Centre
The EPIC project is the flagship project of the European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica–Gorizia. It is a cross-border participatory space dedicated to the interpretation, study, exchange of views, and understanding of 20th-century history.
EPIC encourages dialogue on identity, borders, and the shared heritage of the area. Part of the interpretation centre is the exhibition City on the Border, which tells the story of the past of the Goriška region through personal memories.
EPIC offers a modern, fully equipped multipurpose hall, a gallery for temporary exhibitions, a permanent exhibition, and a café with a unique atmosphere.
The Exhibition City on the Border
The permanent exhibition City on the Border, curated by Dr Kaja Širok, offers insight into the past of the Goriška region through the collective and personal stories of its inhabitants, while opening a space for understanding everyday life in multicultural areas in the 20th century. Its aim is to transcend established national frameworks of historical interpretation and to offer a human and emotional perspective on the events that shaped the region in the previous century, between the two World Wars and in the periods before and after them.
